China News Service, Beijing, March 12 (Zhao Ming) On December 12th, the Distributed Photovoltaic Poverty Alleviation Power Station in Nanguoxia Village, Qishui County, Hebei Province, officially realized the full opening of the 5G communication link, and the power generation, power, and conversion rate of the station. Such information was successfully transmitted to the national grid's distributed photovoltaic cloud network master station at a speed of 100 Gigaseconds per second, which means that the 5G technology was successfully tested for the first time in the photovoltaic cloud network.

The State Grid Distributed PV Cloud Network is the largest distributed photovoltaic one-stop sharing service platform in China. In recent years, with the rapid development of distributed photovoltaics, services such as mass data collection, on-site equipment monitoring, and remote diagnostics and maintenance of photovoltaic power plants have imposed higher requirements on the transmission capabilities of communications networks.

According to Wen Xiangming, senior adviser to the 5G project team of the State Grid distributed photovoltaic cloud network and vice president of the Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, the biggest change in the 5G technology brought about by the photovoltaic cloud network is the dramatic increase in the data transmission rate and quality, which can effectively solve the photovoltaic cloud network. The number of users facing the surge, the difficulty of collecting large amounts of distributed data, and the difficulty of ensuring wide-area coverage are other challenges.

“With 5G technology, it can provide isolated and exclusive network slices for different properties of PV cloud network data collection, operation monitoring, electricity billing, etc. to ensure the differentiated demands and service quality of different businesses and ensure that PV cloud network is more efficient, safe and reliable. To achieve personalized, intelligent and other integrated services.” Wen Xiangming said.

Xie Xiangying, head of the photovoltaic cloud division of State Grid's e-commerce company, also believes that 5G communications are characterized by high speed, high security, full coverage, and intelligence, and can effectively solve the problems of distributed photovoltaic power stations with decentralized, multi-point, and large quantities.

"The successful application of the 5G technology in the photovoltaic cloud network will help integrate the entire photovoltaic industry resources, increase the overall social participation of the photovoltaic industry, and create an open and shared new form of distributed photovoltaic industry, boosting the integration of the national grid. The energy service strategy landed and the country’s clean energy developed rapidly and healthily,” said Xie.

According to Xie Xiangying, State Grid has established a joint laboratory with Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications. The next step is to continue to research the application of 5G technology, improve the smart cloud photovoltaic network service and innovation, and help the country's energy transformation and economic development.
