Cypress Launches High Performance Laser Navigation Sensor

Cypress Semiconductor has introduced a high-precision, high-performance laser navigation sensor as part of its OvationONSTM laser navigation sensor family. The CYONS1001G uses OptiCheckTM technology in the patent application process, which delivers unparalleled speed and accuracy with low power consumption. The product is designed for applications including high-performance gaming, precision graphic design, and high-precision position detection.

The OvationONS sensor features a simple snap-in lens design that integrates the detector and laser in a compact 8 mm x 8 mm QFN package. This two-part simple device features a built-in laser eye safety management device, eliminating the need for laser power calibration during mouse assembly to reduce manufacturing costs. The signal processing load of this technology is independent of mouse speed; the OvationONS sensor supports both full speed (50 inches per second) and full resolution (2800 cpi (counts per inch)), maximizing the count per second (cps) of mouse recordings. To avoid the "deceleration" effect that many sensors on the market today have not overcome. In addition, OptiCheck's position sampling speeds of up to 40 kHz allow the OvationONS sensor to respond instantly to changes in tracking direction or speed with significantly reduced delay times.

The CYONS1001G laser sensor is part of the Cypress Human Interface Device (HID) portfolio. The portfolio includes the industry's leading line of USB controllers and WirelessUSBTM LP programmable RF system-on-chip devices. The sensor integrates seamlessly with these devices to form the main building blocks for wired and wireless mice. The CYONS1001G, combined with Cypress's WirelessUSB, forms the wireless gaming mouse with the lowest power consumption.

The OvationONS sensor family uses Cypress's patented OptiCheckTM technology, which is fundamentally different from traditional image capture/related technologies. OptiCheck is an ideal choice for wireless gaming mice with a detection scheme that simplifies signal processing requirements, maximizing performance and reducing sensor power consumption.

Key performance of CYONS1001G

 The highest hardware resolution is 2800 cpi (counts per inch), the speed is up to 50 inches per second, the continuous variable resolution can be set to any value between 400-2800 cpi, and can be set differently in the X and Y directions.  Fast and efficient computer cursor speeds up to 140,000 cps (counts per second)
 First-class position sampling speed – 40,000 samples per second, local 16-bit X and 16-bit Y-direction read speed.
