Large area of nitrogen fertilizer for corn

Recently, the United States Department of Agriculture released a report on planting status, saying that the enthusiasm of US corn growers has been greatly increased this year. It is expected that the corn planting area will reach 92.2 million acres, which is 5% more than last year and 7% more than in 2009. This will increase the use of chemical fertilizers.

Due to the better-than-expected future demand in the corn trading market, and data released by the US Department of Agriculture, corn inventories fell by 15% year-on-year on March 1st, which further increased the confidence of growers and drove up the price of corn. On March 1 this year, US corn stocks stood at 6.52 billion bushels, of which 3.35 billion were stored in farmer warehouses. This was a 26% drop from the beginning of the year, while non-agricultural stocks fell to 3.14 billion bushels. From December 2010 to February 2011, corn stocks fell by 3.53 billion bushels.

According to the report, the continuous increase in corn planting area has driven the demand for nitrogen fertilizer, phosphate fertilizer and potash fertilizer in the United States. In particular, the increase in corn and wheat planting and the reduction in soybeans have brought more benefits to nitrogen fertilizer suppliers. The report expects that this year's corn planting area will be the second peak since 1944, second only to the 93.5 million acres in 2007. According to the report, the soya bean acreage in the United States is expected to reach 76.6 million acres this year, down 1% year-on-year; wheat plantings are up 8% to 58 million acres; rice is 3.02 million acres, down 17% year-on-year; and cotton is up 15% to 12.6 million acres. Sorghum grows 4% to 5.65 million acres.
