China will introduce foreign detection instruments to implement airborne substation sounding observation

The implementation of airborne downcast sounding observation experiments is an extremely effective observation tool for studying mobile mesoscale heavy rain systems and typhoon systems moved from tropical oceans.

Prof. Ni Yunqi, head of the field research technology of the National Meteorological Science Research Institute and the National 973 Project, said that the “China Southern Rainstorm Field Experiment” plan should achieve its scientific goals. The key scientific and technical issue to be solved is how to obtain high-temporal-resolution three-dimensional meteorological observations. Information, in terms of current science and technology level, the implementation of airborne subsonic sounding observation experiments is the most effective way.

Airborne drop-in sounding can obtain high-time-space-density 3D meteorological observation data, and can also perform airborne subsonic sounding observation in sparsely populated areas or at sea, so as to obtain corresponding high-precision meteorological observation data, and more importantly, This kind of observation equipment is highly maneuverable and can track three-dimensional observations of moving disaster weather systems, which is more practical and reliable for obtaining three-dimensional meteorological data related to mesoscale strong convection systems or typhoon systems.

At present, the use of such excellent performance advanced detection tools to detect mesoscale strong convection systems or typhoon systems is still blank in China. Foreign developed countries have used such tools to detect typhoons or mesoscales.
